York | OTA
The best part of all this, for now, anyway, is surprising his friends who show up at the door to get in. Yup, he's here, and it's up to him whether you get in! Not that he'd deny anyone that privilege without reason.
Tonight is a typical night at the club, at least as far as he's experienced it. It's still a bit early, which means there's a little bit of a line, but there aren't too many people waiting. York understands, of course—everyone wants to arrive before Xian performs. So he doesn't dick around—checking IDs is easy enough. He just has to pay attention to the numbers in the birthdates because he has an unfortunate tendency to transpose text if he's not paying enough attention.
When he notices someone from the population of friends that show up to the support meetings, he always offers them a smile and a hand for a handshake. "Heyyy," he says brightly.

Blinks, then shyly. "Hello...? Hello." Being a very reserved man, he took a few moments to realized he wanted a handshake, so. A handshake he gives. Shake. "Support group, right? Do you work here?"
no subject
"Yeah, just started this week," he says. "5 nights a week and free drinks. It's a good deal."
no subject
"Mm. It seems like a fun job and sounds like a good deal. You get to work late nights?"
no subject

At that, after showing his ID, he disappears inside the night club with his colleagues. Lan Wangji can be found later in the lounge area with a glass of pina colada on one hand.
He's relaxing and sitting alone all by himself after the friends he came with left him to go find other patrons to chat and dance with him in the dance area of the nightclub. The DJ is playing music loudly in the background.

Later on he sees the other man sitting, and a smile appears on his face. He's been abandoned in clubs before, too.
"Hey, there," he greets him as he approaches. "Having fun yet?"
no subject
"I think so. My friends from university are having fun, but I have no one to dance with. I think the music is too loud."
Turning to him, "Is the dancing show is going to start yet?"

Hopefully the flashy dancers and the music won't give him a headache, and he can sit through it.
no subject
Why would he think he's worrying? Something about the expression on his face.
"So you were telling me about your work earlier, weren't you? What is it you do?"
no subject
"Hm? Oh, I'm a student at a university. I'm working on being a professor to teach history and social studies and this year is my final year. My friends who came with me, they're students working on being teachers too." After some thought, "Though I probably might teacher younger students like middle school or high school, if I could manage."
no subject
"You're working on a PhD? That's amazing! I couldn't even fathom starting school, so I ran off on my mom and started working on the oil rigs."
He raises his hand, as if giving a scout's salute.
"Honest."
no subject
The drink lowers his shell somewhat. "You ran off on your mother? Why? If you don't mind me asking."
no subject
He chuckles.
"I'm just not the super studious type."
no subject
With a nod, "Well, it seems working here works out for you. Easy work. Do you ever think that one day you'll see your mother again? I know if I ever disappeared, my parents will be worried and even then, I have to give them a call or text to let them know I'm all right."
no subject
He spread his hands.
"You don't get memories if you're away from New York. Weird, huh?"
no subject
"Memories? Are you talking past life memories? No. I have traveled outside of New York to visit my relatives, but nothing else of that sort happened."
no subject
He nods at the empty glass.
"Want another?"
no subject
Shaking his head, "No. I hit my limit, so that's enough. Thank you." His cellphone vibrates and he reads the text. It's his colleagues that lets him know the show is about to start.
"I think the show is about to start. So, let's go."
