May Meta Plot - Part 1

Who: Mr. Martin and Your Character
What: Mr. Martin has a few questions
When: Monday, May 11, 2020
Where: The streets of NYC
Rating/Warnings: TBD
Notes: This is happening all over the city in the afternoon, wherever your character is currently walking. When your characters talk about their encounter, they’ll learn that everyone’s encounter (he will visit with 8 characters) happened at the same time. How did Mr. Martin manage to do that?! It’s a ~mystery~.

Players are welcome to either thread out the encounter, or handwave. Either way the encounter will be short. If you would prefer to handwave the conversation, feel free to discuss with the mods in the comments.


The weather is chilly and rainy, though the snow from the other day has thankfully melted. The weather doesn’t seem to stop people from going about their lives and the busy streets are bustling as usual.

Mr. Martin is there, standing in the middle of the sidewalk, when your character rounds the corner, they can’t miss him. The streets might be full of pedestrians, but they seem to part around him, giving your character clear path to him.

Mr. Martin looks surly, but the weather only marginally contributed to that mood. He’s mulling about something else entirely.

“Mr./Ms. [Your character’s name],” He addresses your character. “Let’s take a walk.” It’s not a request.

"Yes, and I think I've done fairly well at that. Not even a parking ticket," he said with false lightness.

[tramitis]

Mr. Martin had a withering stare for Aziraphale. Though he tossed those out like candy at a parade. If it was personal was for anyone to assume.

"Do you think I'm here about parking tickets?"

[temptationaccomplished]

He winced and looked away apologetically from the glare.

"No, I suppose not," he said innocently. "I guess that would be handled by the police?"

[tramitis]

"Do I look like the police?" Mr. Martin asked, dismissive.

"I care only about protecting the Bureau."

[temptationaccomplished]

"Wonderful! Seems you're doing an excellent job at that, too. I best let you get on with it, then, shan't keep you."

[tramitis]

"Let's finally get to the point," Mr. Martin said. "What do you know about anti-Bureau sentiment among the Different?"

[temptationaccomplished]

"Ah." Aziraphale schooled his expression into a neutral sort of frown of concerned assistance. "Yes. Well, I think it's fairly inevitable. You cannot possibly expect any powerful agency to exist without dissenting opinions also co-existing. Historically speaking, anyway, it's been a matter of inevitability."

[tramitis]

"If I wanted a text book answer about systems of power I would attend a lecture down at City College. I want to know what you've heard or witnessed specifically."

[temptationaccomplished]

"Me?" he said, frown pinching into a look of confusion. "Hasn't your Bureau been at the Support Group meeting every session? And isn't our network provided by you? That's where I assume you'd find anything of that nature. And I hardly think your agents have been slacking off. In fact," he added with a smile and apparent sincerity, "I find them to be very attentive and knowledgeable."

[tramitis]

"I am not a simpleton, Mr. Fell," Mr. Martin said. But he stopped to look at Aziraphale squarely.

"Is there anything else you have to say?"

[temptationaccomplished]

"Of course not."

He smiled. "No?" No, he was pretty sure that was all. "Oh! Wait. Yes. Thank you for the hot chocolate. It was a lovely addition to the Support Meetings."

[tramitis]

Mr. Martin was quiet for a moment, giving Aziraphale an appraising look.

"You're welcome, Mr. Fell."

And as he tuned to leave, he said, "Do stay out of trouble."

He slipped into the crowd, and the throng of people closed in around him. He was gone.
