Jem Marlow August Catchall
Who: Jem Marlow and Open
What: August Catchall (Posts may be added as we go)
Where: Around New York
When: All throughout August
Rating/Warnings: N/A, will update as needed
[ 1. Petshopping ]
It's not unusual for Jem's shopping days to be like this - it's always a trip for a few things and turns into an adventure of vast treasure. You'd think he would have learnt to use a cart by now. But this tall and slender man is carrying several bags of varying birdseed, some cuttlebones, and an array of new bird toys (He likes to spoil his babies, okay?). They're stacked in the comical way that they cover his line of sight, and he has to struggle to peek around his pile to make sure he doesn't accidentally crash into anyone.
He's a little clumsy in his step, but still careful, as he makes it to the bird treats and reaches out a hand to grab a few more packets, trying to balance his already-found goodies on one of his knees. Unfortunately, it seems to not be quite as balanced as he hopes, and the tower of items begins to topple. He fumbles to try and get it back under control, but he can only yell out:
"Watch out!"
because the pile is crashing down, now. He tries hard to twist them so that it doesn't fall on anyone else, but the weight is already more than he anticipated. Hopefully it misses you. And he'll rush to check on you afterward.
"Are you alright?! I'm sorry!"
Don't mind him if he starts to do a basic check on you - injuries, concussions, etc. Even if nothing hit you. Can't be too careful.
[ 2. Lotus Bar ]
Jem definitely enjoys his line of work, being a bartender at the Lotus Bar. He gets to enjoy the shows and talk to the customers, and service has always been kind of his thing. He's upbeat and full of energy as he caters around to other customers. He mixes the drinks with flair, daring to even show off a little with the tricks he knows.
He flitters quickly but smoothly between tables and the bar to make sure everyone is served in a timely, but kind, fashion.
A wink and a pour, and the next customer is served and satisfied.
He struts over to you next, with a warm smile.
"Hello, there. What can I get for you to drink this evening? We have a menu sure to tantalise your tastebuds."

He takes a moment to chat with the person next to him while Jem finishes with his customer and then eagerly waves the man down. He gets all the free drinks he wants, and usually gets to enjoy drinks given to him by patrons of the club. So most nights he leaves quite pleasantly buzzed. He has already been able to enjoy a couple lovely rounds with some of the regulars, but now he decides to request one on his own.
He smiles brightly as the man approaches, "Time for my evening cool down. A water and one of the blue specials." The blue special simply being the club's large signature drinks but in a much more manageable single person glass. Just because he knows when it is time to have a drink of water to flush some of the alcohol out, doesn't mean he isn't going to chase it with another drink.

He shuffles some ice into a glass and pours the water for Wei first, sliding him the glass on a napkin before proceeding to make the trademark drink.
"You did great again. Of course, I'm sure you know that already."
A few flips and a shake, and he procures a glass for the drink, pouring it smoothly.
"It's always a pleasure getting to see your performances, though."

"I'm glad you like them. I always figure the employees here are the ones most likely to tell me when something is no good because they don't want to have to watch it any more."
He laughs and leans on the bar. The bartenders are always the most honest and brutal when it comes to opinions. Some of them just like to give him a hard time just because they know he can handle it. He has most of the body guards and bouncers wrapped around his little finger so he can't count on them for an honest answer.
"So it's good to know that so far you are enjoying it."
no subject
"It livens up the night for sure."
He slides the drink to Xian as he leans a little on the bar himself.
"I don't suppose you're taking on apprentices for dancing," he half-jokes. It looks like a lot of fun, but he's not sure he'd want to do it for entertainment like Xian does.

He takes a sip of the new drink and hums his satisfaction. It's just right.
"Obviously it is a little late to do anything like that after we get done here but there are several days when I come in early to learn new routines. You are welcome to come and learn a few moves."
no subject
"I might have to take you up on that then. Got any early days planned coming up soon?"
Can't hurt to learn it a little. He might like it, after all.

Petshopping
Until he'd cried out!
And then, she got the hells out of the way, though Yotsuyu couldn't help but give out a cry of her own--one of startled surprise. She's used to such things--it isn't as if she hasn't got a teenager, after all. Elliott's sweet and good-hearted, but he's not always the most savvy when it comes to loading himself up with bagged cereals and other sweet snacks, the kinds that teens adore. Though such snacks are usually less...dangerous?
"No, no, I'm quite all right!" she says--though she can't help a laugh at the young man. "But what of your purchases? And you yourself? You've taken no harm from your mishap, have you?"
no subject
"I'm alright. And, well..." He looks back at the things he had gathered. Thankfully, nothing else seems to have been crashed in their wake, but one of the bags seems to have snagged on something, and is now leaking a steady stream.
"It's alright. I was planning to pay for that anyway. Hopefully, they can slap some tape on it until I can get it home."
no subject
But there was a convenient caution sign nearby, even if the floor was not wet, as it were.
"I've nothing that suffered, either--I had not made it to the submerged plants. That could have been a tragedy, but crisis averted, no?" She flashed him a smile, then. "Just fold the edge over like that and pinch it closed for now, 'til they can use the tape. It should be safe until then!"
Though she supposed she could get an employee if she made a ruckus, she doubted her new companion would appreciate it.
no subject
"I guess I'll have to get a cart, now," he gives a half laugh. But smiles at Yotsuyu when he turns back to her. "I'm glad you're not hurt. Care to let me make it up to you, anyway? I can treat you to some tea or coffee, or even lunch."
Lotus
As soon as he's able to clock out he approaches the bar and stands by, waiting for Jem to come around. The barstools are all full, so he's standing down by the end where there's a little more space between the last barstool and the wall.
"The usual," he tells Jem, and then waits for the man to make his strawberry Long Island iced tea.
As soon as Jem returns he's ready to shoot the shit. "So...any trouble at the bar tonight?"
no subject
"Oh, nothing too hectic. Not with you on duty~ It's been smooth sailing. Busy as ever, though, but I'm not complaining. How about your end?"
no subject
no subject
"Then I'm glad we have you to stop them."
He doesn't think that he'd accidentally serve a 16-year-old, but it's better that he doesn't have to worry about that happening.
"Hopefully it's not too stressful at the front. Or is it too boring?" he asks, curious about the details of the life of a bouncer right from the source.
no subject
As far as the stress...
"The main thing is being careful to recognize people who have been banned. I did make a couple mistakes with that at the beginning."
Pet shopping
"Watch it!" he calls, and scowls.
In response to Jem's checking on him, he rolls his eyes.
"You know stores have carts for a reason."
no subject
"Yes, you're right. I'm sorry. But are you hurt?" He holds up a hand with three fingers up. "How many fingers do you see?"
no subject
"You didn't give me a concussion," he scoffs. "Just watch it next time."
no subject
He starts to turn to regather the fallen things, but then he thinks about it.
He reaches in his pocket, pulls out his wallet, and takes out a business card. He scribbles a number on the back of it and then holds it out to Hopper.
"Here, this is my number. If anything changes, let me know. I'll accept full responsibility."
He hopes he didn't give Hopper an injury. But just in case, he's definitely going to own up to it.
