The streets of Krajina Božstiev are dusty and crowded. So many people on their way to live their lives. Markets, taverns, the Temple, the Palace. What do you look at first? What do you buy? Where to do you find yourself exploring?

Take a moment to appreciate the shine of the Temple. The beauty of the Palace gardens. The quiet serenity of the Library. The simplistic, but filling food in the taverns. Or the peaceful quaintness of the hills. A new world has opened up and somehow it all just seems simpler over here. People seem happy (mostly) in this existence.

Maybe...

Watch out for the occasional person going into a rage on the other side of the street or tavern. That can't mean anything...

"I'm never going to say no to time with you." Jack says with a teasing grin. "and I have a couple of playbill mock ups in my bag," he says kicking the bag by his feet. "they aren't going to be used beyond me checking my name is spelled right and all that. I could try and trade those."

"Those ought to work nicely, yes," Emberto said. "Though if you see anything a bit bigger that you might like, you might want to come back again tomorrow with a spare book or two, something that you planned to donate or the like. Books are quite a rarity around here, and even one of those little paperback romances would likely fetch a good price." Which was an amazing return on an investment, whether or not one liked such things. Emberto neither confirmed nor denied.

Jack chuckles. "I still am annoyed that you got me hooked on those too," he says with a shake of his head as he picks up his backpack to dig out the playbills. "But I'll admit they are quick reads when I'm waiting around for sets to be fixed or scenes to be shot."

"They're literary candy, those things," Emberto said. "Not much substance but quite tasty and maybe a teeny bit naughty. Though thankfully, unlike candy, you needn't worry about ruining your lovely smile if you consume too many of those."

Jack snorts and rolls his eyes. He's always been slightly uncomfortable with the idea of people finding him attractive or even mock flirting with him like this. It's not that it doesn't sit right, it just feels weird. "I can understand why women are disappointed in most men they date after reading some of the hotter ones....I'm disappointed in myself sometimes."

Emberto nodded. "They're meant to be fantasies, and for better or worse, reality rarely quite compares to what an author's mind can conjure up," he said. "Though I suppose we should be glad of that. Our lives have become exciting enough recently without adding that sort of drama into the mix. It's one thing to read about torrid love affairs, but outside of fiction they tend to be rather messy things."

Jack nods. "And that's the main reason I tend to focus on my career instead of romance," he says dryly, "too much trouble to try to impress one person when I can impress a bunch of people during one show."

"Quite understandable," Emberto said. "Though I've got no doubt that you could do both, if you found someone who made you want to. You're certainly impressive enough when you want to be to have more than enough to go around."

"I haven't found anyone who really lights me up," Jack says with a shrug, "I feel like I've been waiting for something or someone but I'm not sure what I'm waiting for or if I should be."

"Well, if you ever do find such a person, they're going to be very lucky indeed," Emberto said. Jack was a wonderful person, and Emberto had no doubt that anyone who his friend might eventually take an interest in would be able to see that too.

"Now then, what say we do some shopping, eh? If I recall correctly, there's a stall a bit further down that sells some rather delicious pastries."
