The streets of Krajina Božstiev are dusty and crowded. So many people on their way to live their lives. Markets, taverns, the Temple, the Palace. What do you look at first? What do you buy? Where to do you find yourself exploring?

Take a moment to appreciate the shine of the Temple. The beauty of the Palace gardens. The quiet serenity of the Library. The simplistic, but filling food in the taverns. Or the peaceful quaintness of the hills. A new world has opened up and somehow it all just seems simpler over here. People seem happy (mostly) in this existence.

Maybe...

Watch out for the occasional person going into a rage on the other side of the street or tavern. That can't mean anything...

Jack looks up from the stall he was looking through and nods. "I couldn't help myself," he explains quietly. "I've always liked to explore and this seemed like too good to pass up even though we were told not to go through." But Jack has never really done what people expected of him. "How are you liking things so far?"

"It's like something out of a storybook," Martin admits with a chuckle. The kind his nephew used to beg him to read when he'd visit. "I half expect pirates or wild brigands to rush us from dark alleys." He raises his eyebrows in playful emphasis, then offers a handshake. "Dr. Martin Whitly. A pleasure."

Jack smiles and shakes the offered hand. "Jack Porter, it's a pleasure to meet you as well. And you're right. This place is like something out of one of the musicals I was in. I keep expecting a princess to come running out and need my help." He shakes his head and chuckles. "Silly isn't it?"

not_as_i_do: (totally sane person yep)

"Musicals, huh? I bet that's a fun thing to get paid to do." He grins. "And I have a feeling the definition of 'silly' is pretty relative when you start walking through strange portals. It certainly wasn't on my agenda for the week, I'll put it that way. But you know ... curiosity got the better of me."

"It's never boring," Jack replies with a smile, "and I get the whole curiosity thing. I've never been able to sit still myself when there is something interesting to poke around with. I spent most of my twenties hitchhiking around the country and meeting all kinds of people. I loved it."

not_as_i_do: (told you so)

"Really! That sounds like quite the experience. I thought the age of hitchhiking went out with disco. I hope you were still safe enough, and didn't get into any trouble."

It was strange how quickly his mind leapt to the old urban legends about drivers or hitchhikers killing one or the other. How he could picture the sudden flash of a knife. But in the moment, he thought nothing of it.

"I was careful," Jack says, "and really I only hitchhiked in the truest sense of the term a few times when I was low on cash. i tried to find a job everywhere I stayed so I didn't have to do it all the time."

"Oh, trust me, I'm not criticizing! It sounds pretty thrilling, if I'm being honest." His eyes widened ever so briefly, a glimpse of something impulsive hidden behind his doctor's manner. "Who was the most interesting person who picked you up?"
