What: Exploring a whole knew world
When: Anytime between June 20 - July 4
Where: Around Krajina Božstiev
Rating/Warnings: Please add warnings to your top-levels/threads as needed

The streets of Krajina Božstiev are dusty and crowded. So many people on their way to live their lives. Markets, taverns, the Temple, the Palace. What do you look at first? What do you buy? Where to do you find yourself exploring?

Take a moment to appreciate the shine of the Temple. The beauty of the Palace gardens. The quiet serenity of the Library. The simplistic, but filling food in the taverns. Or the peaceful quaintness of the hills. A new world has opened up and somehow it all just seems simpler over here. People seem happy (mostly) in this existence.

Maybe...

Watch out for the occasional person going into a rage on the other side of the street or tavern. That can't mean anything...

Emberto looked up as he was addressed, smiling a bit and readily shifting over to make a little more room on the bench. "Of course not, darling," he said. "The sun here can get to be a bit much at times."

"I'm sure the sort of snowbirds that head to Arizona and Florida for the winter are loving it here, if we have any of those among the ... uh, Different." He stumbled a little over the new word as he helped himself to the offered seat. "Thank you."

He held out a hand in exchange. "Dr. Martin Whitly, nice to meet you."
smilingarmor: (Hello there)

Emberto chuckled. "I grew up in Spain," he said, "so I sometimes wish I could do that. My first New York winter was definitely an eye opener."

He returned the offered handshake readily. "Emberto Alegre. Good to meet you and welcome to our happy little group. Well, somewhat happy at least."

"I'm not sure I'd go so far as happy, but everyone has at least been polite." Martin gave an amused bob of his bushy eyebrows. "Spain, mm? I've heard it's lovely there. Never been out of the country, myself."

"It is indeed," Emberto said, smiling as he thought back. "I do miss it sometimes, but I haven't been out of the country either since I got my US citizenship. I keep meaning to get a new passport, but it keeps slipping my mind you know? It's not nearly so necessary in the United States as it is in Europe."

"I had one in high school - class trip to Italy for the Latin seniors," he shrugs. "I think that was the only time I ever used it. It expired ages ago, but it's probably still collecting dust somewhere in my closet. Probably in a shoebox. ... Sometimes I think about traveling, but New York has little pieces of the rest of the world spattered all over."

"Oh, that sounds lovely!", Emberto said. "My senior trip was to Barcelona; it was quite a week, let me tell you. Though I'm afraid the last day or two is a bit of a blurr." He grinned a bit wryly there; with the lower drinking age in much of Europe compared to the US, it was easy to guess why.

"But yes, New York is wonderful that way. Though I'd like to go see a bit more of the country sometime as well. I'd love to visit one of the Disney parks sometime."
not_as_i_do: (totally sane person yep)

I see what you did there

"Quite likely the same reason I don't recall my last couple of nights in Rome," Martin laughed. "Ouzo is a very, very fickle mistress, let me tell you. Though the ladies who introduced me to her were certainly kind enough, if you get my drift."

He paused, considering the theme parks. "I admit I'm curious about how immersive Disney is supposed to be: I hear it blows stuff like Six Flags out of the water in that regard. But I'm more likely to spend a vacation somewhere quiet with a decent bar and good music venues. I'm a sucker for a good beer and a better accoustic guitar."
smilingarmor: (Wink)

Hehehe...

Emberto laughed as well. "No less so than Sangria and the señoritas in Barcelona, I'd bet," he said. "But yes, those were certainly some wonderful times. It's too bad that we're too much older and wiser now to repeat them." He gave Martin a bit of a wink there. They were indeed old enough to know better now. But it was still fun to imagine.

He nodded at the vacation idea, smiling a bit. "That sounds lovely too, though only for a day or two to me. After that, I'd likely be looking for something more to do."

"I do like a good Sangria," he concurred. "So you're the active type, then? Hiking and kayaks and mountain bikes, that sort of thing? Or were you thinking more in terms of night life?"
smilingarmor: (Chillin')

"More nightlife," Emberto said. "Or just things to see and do. I'm a bit too fond of creature comforts to really consider myself an outdoors man, but I also find that too much peace and quiet leaves me rather restless. That's why a life in the city suits me so well; there's always something going on somewhere."
not_as_i_do: (this pleases the crazy)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-09-08 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Makes perfect sense," Martin decided. "I can't say I live at bars and clubs, but invite me to a party or out with a group and I'll gladly spend a night bellied up to a bar or parked in a comfy little booth watching a show. I like the social aspect of it all more than the actual getting plastered."

"As do I these days," Emberto said. "Barcelona not withstanding, I do generally prefer being able to remember if I had a good time, you know? Especially the next day." Hangovers were no fun, even when you were young enough for them not to ruin much more than your day.
