The streets of Krajina Božstiev are dusty and crowded. So many people on their way to live their lives. Markets, taverns, the Temple, the Palace. What do you look at first? What do you buy? Where to do you find yourself exploring?

Take a moment to appreciate the shine of the Temple. The beauty of the Palace gardens. The quiet serenity of the Library. The simplistic, but filling food in the taverns. Or the peaceful quaintness of the hills. A new world has opened up and somehow it all just seems simpler over here. People seem happy (mostly) in this existence.

Maybe...

Watch out for the occasional person going into a rage on the other side of the street or tavern. That can't mean anything...

He smiles, faintly. "Because it's pretty and I remember making it, now." Also it would make him feel safer, but that's a weird blurring of lines that's covered by the memories of making it.

"It wouldn't go perfectly with your usual wardrobe, but it would be beautiful on you." There's a difference, Bail. "You could do ties. Or a robe."

Okay, hold that thought for a moment, because Bail has questions about laser sword making. But first he has a more pressing question to ask Ben.

Right in his ear, because Bail leans in to ask a perfectly innocent question. That only Ben was allowed to hear.

"Is that what you want?" his tone was quite casual if pitched low just for Ben... and yet, there was something underneath that calm curiosity... "Me in... just a robe made out of this fabric?"

He turns his head toward Bail, exactly far enough to be able to pull back a bit and snap his teeth just right to barely graze Bail's jaw. No bite, no sting, but the slide of teeth was there. "Buy it."

The deal was done. The fabric purchased.

And it was a fun game up until Bail was handed the fabric and then... well, how did they get this home? They weren't given a bag, because, obviously disposable bags were not a thing. And Bail hadn't thought to bring any of the reusable bags from home because he wasn't expecting to get into a teasing contest with his- what were they now? date over enough fabric to make a robe out of.

He hadn't thought this through, and it probably showed on his face.

But he tucked the folded fabric under his arm and pressed on, because what else could he do.

At least he had the wonderful thought of looking forward to wearing this for Ben. When it was actually a robe.

"Okay," he said, trying to recover his dignity. "Tell me how to build a laser sword."

He was too delighted - touched and amused - by Bail actually buying the fabric to even notice there was confusion about how to carry that much folded fabric around.

"There is quite a bit of it that I don't believe would translate at all, but it all starts with the crystal." He smiles, just a bit. "And mine was blue. Qui-Gon's was green. If I could make one here, I might. Just because it was so important."

Bail watched Ben with amusement. "I think you skipped some information there," he teased lightly. Who was Qui-Gon, why were laser sword important? You know, the details.

He laughs. "I may have, but none of it feels very important right now. Which are the bits you want?" Beyond context which is still hard, but he can try.

"Why is a - lightsaber important?" If it was important, he would call it what Ben called it.

"This weapon is your life," is a thing I heard," he says, smiling faintly. "I don't quite get it but I understand the gist of the symbolism. I suppose that means I shouldn't want to claim it since it wasn't really my life, but- It was neat and felt good."

"It's neat and felt good?" Bail raised an eyebrow. And in a sort of teasing voice added, "Those are solid reasons to want to own a dangerous weapon."

He quirks a faint smile. "I don't actually want to use it. In fact I don't think I could. It just feels like a thing that's noticeably missing now. Which should probably worry me more than it does."

"Emotions seem to come with the memories, don't they?" Bail observed.

"They do. Being unusually fond of Anakin and wanting to protect him and fear that I will fail him is something that bothers me less than missing a weapon. One of them fits my personality as it is now better than the other."

Bail cast a concerning glance at Ben.

"Is that what he's doing- telling you or giving you the impression he thinks you'll fail him?"

"No. It's part of the carryover from memories. Nothing to do with him. He doesn't even remember why I'd think that, at least he didn't last time we talked."

It's complicated.

"Can you explain it to me?" Bail asked, gently. He'd already seen how Ben could devalue his own abilities. It was curious that this seem to also be a feature of Ben's memories.

Where to begin, with the memories that he did have.

"When I first met Anakin, I was a student of the man who was killed. He told me shortly before that I was not ready to... graduate, for want of a better word. That man wanted to take Anakin as his student, because Anakin was... exceptionally gifted. At that point I was suddenly very ready. Then, as he was dying, he asked me to promise to teach Anakin. There should have been a transition between being a student and being a teacher. Instead, there was a formality and then it simply was."

In short, it was a lot.

And that is leaving out phropesies and Qui-Gon not wanting him to begin with.
