Who: Ben and Wei Wuxian
What: Petting cats
Where: A coffee shop and a PetStore.

As far as invitations for distraction went, even Ben was pretty aware that his off the cuff suggestion that they grab coffee and go pet rescue cats was pretty ridiculous.

That it went over as well as it had was maybe promising on the friend front, though. If only because it meant he wasn't the only slightly ridiculous one. Or maybe he was, but at least his desire to be helpful was sincere.

He sent a text to arrange a time and to meet up outside a coffee shop near a pet store that was currently hosting cats for adoption by a local group, ordered his coffee and hung around waiting just outside the door. He was pretty easy to miss in slacks and a white button-down, but at least they'd met once so he didn't have to worry about that aspect of a meet up.

Wei Wuxian has been..oddly excited..about cat petting. Perhaps it was just because it offered an escape from the things in his head. But whatever the reason, he was glad to get the text.

Dressed in tight black jeans and a red silky button up collared shirt, Wei Wuxian practically bounced his way across the street, lifting his hand up to wave as he approached. Perhaps black was not the best of choices when planning to pet animals, but Wei Wuxian wasn't terribly worried about it. If he left covered in cat hair then that meant it was a good day.

"Ahh you already started! Not fair! You better not have touched any cats yet." He's grinning ear to ear as he looks up at the shop.

He held his hands up, laughing. "I promise, I have not yet touched a cat - if I had, there'd be cat hair all over my pants, and I'm still free thanks to using a lint roller after I left my apartment."

Shedding on his carpet and furniture didn't show much with a white cat and white apartment, but his slacks were another thing entirely.

"Good! I would have been mad. Let's go get covered in hair!" He is ready for some good old wholesome distracting cat petting. He didn't need to adopt a cat but that didn't mean he couldn't pet them all and make sure they would be well behaved enough to go to good homes.

There are already lots of wonderful looking cat parents looking at all the fur babies and he's happy to blend in with them.

He laughs, partially delighted but also a little pained. "All right, but I didn't bring a lint roller with me, though, so we're going to look like cat...lords? if we go anywhere else after."

He's pretty ready to look at cats and, ironically given Elsa, is gravitating somewhat toward the black ones.

"It's a badge of honor! It shows you have a good soul and love animals. Wear the hair with pride."

He's already all smiles as one of the workers places a little gray kitten in his arms. It's got silky long hair and it's tiny meows are melting Wei Wuxian's heart.

"That or I'm slovenly," he says, grinning a little. He settles down on the floor anyway, though. "You should really think about getting a cat."

"Then we will both look that way. Me more so given I'm in black!" He sits down next to him and places the kitten in his lap.

"I'm not sure my building allows them." It could be something to look into though. "But I also don't spend a lot of time there since I work at night. I'd feel bad leaving one alone so much."

"Does working nights really mean you're gone longer than average, or just at different hours?" He wasn't pushing, it's just a thing he's curious about.

He also wants to know what his new friend does, but that's question two.

"It's not really different then someone who works during the day. Put in my eight hours, go home and sleep. Just means breakfast isn't really my thing and lunch becomes the first meal of the day. But I don't like staying at home. I like being out even when I'm not at work."

He doesn't like it because it's quiet all alone at home. That would change probably if he got a cat.
