The Gala - May 10th
The Gala was hosted in the Garden Terrace Room, a spacious ballroom with volume enough for the lavish floral displays that decorated each round table and left plenty of dance floor left for the three hundred guests dressed in their finest. The expansive windows featured breathtaking views of the gardens beyond and if one should wish to have a closer look the terrace was open for all guests to enjoy and catch a breath of fresh night air. This celebration of dinner, cocktails, and dancing kicked off the beginning of the renowned artist, Kusama's months long exhibition.
*****
1.) As the Director of Living Collections Anthony was here in a black tux, as was his duty, to greet each guest as they entered the ballroom. A gorgeous blond in a fashionable blue dress stood by his side helping him to welcome each visitor like the two were a pair of royals ushering in the nobility to a magical evening.
Later when the food was served and the music began Anthony would be found mingling or taking a turn on the dance floor with his date, Grace. - Wildcard Option
2.) The evening was beginning to wind down and the band was hushed as Anthony pulled Grace to the middle of the room. He had a microphone in one hand but Grace favored him with an entirely puzzled look as he spoke. Hadn't they been about to dance?
"Grace, you have been my everything. We've had five years together filled with both bad times, but mostly good times... and I'd like to make sure we have more of each."
As he dropped to one knee Grace's hands flew to her mouth as if holding her breath in might prevent her from crying. It didn't. The faint tears began to well up at the corners of her eyes even while a small box was produced from his pocket and held out to her.
"Will you marry me?"
It had been the perfect sort of evening to lay the foundations for their future and Grace responded with a warm squeal. Yes! Of course she would marry him! The band came to life then to play a soft sweet song as the newly engaged kissed and had their first dance as a soon-to-be married couple.

KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature - Month Catch All
The 250-acre New York Botanical Garden grounds would find themselves completely transformed by the 12th. Works by the renowned artist Yayoi Kusama were strategically scattered throughout the park and could be found by way of a map or by following the trail of trees whose trunks had been wrapped in festive polka dotted fabric for the event. Visitors would be treated to such works as Flowers that Speak all about my Heart Given to the Sky and Pumpkins Screaming About Love Beyond Infinity. Colorful portraits of the artist like Yayoi Kusama with Pumpkin, Flower Obsession, and photos of her childhood would be on display in the library along with her childhood peonies sketchbooks and several paintings like I Want to go to the Universe and Summer Flower. A special outdoor infinity room called Infinity Mirror Room -- Illusion Inside the Heart had been setup on the green and designed in such a way that it responded to the natural lighting conditions. Kusama also created her first obliteration greenhouse, inviting visitors to stick fake coral-colored flowers on the surfaces of the building’s interior. On the conservatory lawn a new 16-foot-tall sculpture titled Dancing Pumpkin rested. The piece was a monumental bronze sculpture that allowed viewers to approach the work from multiple angles, including having them walk under and around it. The piece was something like a cross between a spider and a pumpkin and in a sense was meant to give one the feeling like you were being obliterated by flowers. Inside the Victorian greenhouse a painting from Kusama's "My Eternal Soul", series called Alone, Buried in a Flower Garden has been recreated in a grand display of blooming flowers and dark gravel paths.

3.) There was a lot of work to do on the opening day of a big show. Anthony's alarm had been set to wake him far before the sun had risen and he had been up and over the roads and fields in his official golf cart more times than he could count. Wearing an official green Botanical Gardens Polo he was prepared to answer any question those attending might have about the display but really... he was anxious to get a proper look at the installations himself! He can be found anywhere in the gardens. - Wildcard Option
4.) Anthony looked at the piece, Pumpkins Screaming About Love Beyond Infinity, with a head tilt and a thoughtful frown. Was this what love was, glowing dotted pumpkins reaching out into the infinite void? He imagined he could see love in their warm glow but what were they reaching for? It could have been that intangible 'love' that the universe was said to have been built on. Or maybe they were reaching out for another pumpkin just like them, a mate they could hold onto for all eternity. Beyond infinity. It made him think of his own situation. Was there anyone like that in his life. Grace? That other face that kept appearing in his dreams? Was there a love strong enough to endure infinity?
He could still feel the softness of the worn lapels under his fingers and the heat of the other man's chest pressed so very close to his. He had been angry, furious even when he had pushed the shorter man back against the wall, but even while he was yelling his rage the dandy had been perfectly calm, watching his lips and waiting for the fury to subside as if longing with some baited breath for... for what? What might have happened if that former nun hadn't appeared?
Anthony sighed and turned away from these deep thoughts to address the person who had slipped up beside him, "So... what do you think of the piece?"
Because asking such a normal sort of question seemed the best way to banish these odd thoughts.
5.) He had been in an odd mood since the exhibition opened but none of the pieces on the grounds gave him as much pause as the one sitting on the green.
Infinity Mirror Room - Illusion Inside the Heart...
It looked fairly plain on the outside, more like an aluminum box, but once he mustered up the courage to step inside it burst upon him like a dazzling array of stars! Suddenly he was the illusion and his real life was out there in the cosmos helping God design the heavens. His white wings carried him easily between the gaseous giants and the nebula seemed to gain their stunning red colors from merely being touched by his long red hair.
The man himself was only a dream. A small insignificant lump who had collapsed to the mirrored floor and whose unconscious reflection echoed off between the artistic lights.

Anthony couldn't recall having seen this kid at any of the meetings and if they had spoken before it would have had to have been via text message. The name didn't ring any bells for him either. He felt really stupid asking...
"You're one of the Different?"
no subject
"I didn't see it if you just had a memory, so I guess they don't need to come out this time."
no subject
He breathed a sigh of relief and ran his hands through his hair as if that did anything at all to straighten it.
"That was so much like the first time I thought... Maybe the sharing bit only happens once."
no subject
"Maybe? Most of mine have come to me when I'm asleep already. Only recently had one on a train, and I don't think anyone else saw it. ..But I was also dozing off at the time, so."
no subject
It had caused a lot of sleepless nights and been the cause of many an emptied wine bottle.
"But sometimes it happens like this. I see something that must remind me of something else."
He bounced his head up at all the lights that were reflected over everything. They still looked like a starry sky to him. One he had helped to create.
"Next thing I know I'm having one of those memories and nothing else seems to matter. You really never get them like that?"
no subject
"But.. I guess the world I was from was very different from this one, so nothing has reminded me of it yet. I think these gardens are the closest I've felt to it."
no subject
It wasn't much odder than what he had just felt though was it? Out there among the stars, actually creating worlds... yeah, some of them had to had life on them. It only made sense. God had loved to create things back then.
"Which one?"
no subject
"That's going a bit far, isn't it? But I guess technically true." Elliott shrugged. "I don't know for sure what it was called, but Yggdrasil was said to be the source of all life on it."
no subject
Person obsessed with Yggdrasil? Nah! He doubted it. Norse mythology didn't come up very often.
"You were interested in religion?"
no subject
"Yeah, kind of. The roots of different religions would probably be interesting to study, particularly as they might relate to the Different. I wonder if we've been around longer than anyone knows."
no subject
Anthony declared as he made the effort to collect his feet under himself and stand.
"Apparently we have been around from the very beginning..." he teetered around as he tossed his head back to twirl with open arm underneath all of these 'stars' not caring for a second how crazy it made him look, "No, before the beginning! I was out there creating stars long before there was even an Earth!"
no subject
He couldn't imagine it; a time so long ago that there weren't even stars. It certainly upended the posited science of how the universe began, but no one knew anything for sure. The thought shivered through him- a cold unknown with unfathomable possibilities.
"You must have been some sort of supernatural being back then."
no subject
He stopped in his spin as he tried to remember the details, recall every last little thing about who and what he had been. It wasn't like anyone had called him by name but there had been the wings, the very distinctive white wings.
"I... was an angel. How can that be? White wings and everything... I thought angels were eternal?"
no subject
It was a good question. Elliott spent a minute contemplating everything he knew to come up with a possible answer.
"Well... maybe you don't need to die to be reincarnated." He shrugged. "..But I don't know much about angels and how they.. become angels, so I guess I really wouldn't know."
no subject
He blinked at himself, wondering why he had said that with so much certainty.
"But something must have happened, several dozen times apparently. I've been an angel, a serpent, a guy just like I am now and a bloody Mary Poppins!"
Anthony looked up as if seeing the kid he was talking to for the first time. Oh, that whole episode had really rattled him to be going on like this to a total stranger.
"And why am I telling you any of this!"
no subject
Elliott laughed and finally made to stand.
"I remember talking to you over the network now, but I don't think I ever caught your name."
no subject
"Anthony. Anthony J. Crowley."
no subject
"Good to meet you, Anthony," he said, then paused, feeling foolish. "..Well, I mean, I guess it wasn't the best way to meet, but this is a pretty cool place, at least?"
no subject
Slipping into tour guide mode was easier. Anthony was practiced at that.
"Are you into art? Must be, if you came to the gardens to see the show?"
no subject
"It's interesting, but I just came because the event reminded me that I haven't been here in awhile. I like nature."
He raised his head and turned in place, taking it all in again. "This is cool, though. It makes me think of.."
His arms spread in an effort to feel it out, hands coming up like he might be able to lift them all with a gesture. "I don't know. There's just something comforting about it- like the lights are filling up the dark, and they won't ever fade."
Which was just an incredibly lame way to describe the odd sense of pride and compassion he held for every single color.
no subject
And nothing to be embarrassed about from where he was standing as after all...
"I like nature too. It's why I work here."
The rest hit those odd familiar cords, being almost angelic in the way the kid seemed to love the colored stars all around them. Anthony glanced to his watch about then really feeling the need for a drink just to try and get his head on straight again but it was way too early! Another hour until lunch break.
"You should check out daffodil hill or the magnolia garden if you love nature. They will be in full bloom right about now. The cherry trees too, though some of the early varieties will have dropped their petals already."
no subject
He stepped back toward the door and eased it open, then caught sight of the mark on the back of his hand in the sliver of natural light.
"Shoot, uh.." He was sure it'd been fully concealed before the whole glowing thing happened. "You wouldn't happen to have like a glove or something I could borrow.."
no subject
He stopped mid-question as he finally caught sight of the glowing tattoo. Anthony wondered why he hadn't seen it before. Maybe he had but had thought it only a trick of the lightening?
A frown manifested itself but he reached around to his back pocket to pull out one of his official NYBG gloves. This he handed over to the kid... then thinking it weirdly Micheal Jackson to only have the one glove he handed over it's mate too.
"What is that some kind of weird alien birthmark?"
no subject
Elliott reached for the gloves and pulled them on, laughing. "Thanks. But yeah, I guess you could say that. I didn't used to have it, but now I do, and now that I know it glows sometimes, I guess I really will have to wear gloves all the time."
no subject
Unless they thought it was some sort of curious body art thing. Still! There would be questions.
"Is that magic you think? Or just bioluminescence?"
